Hawks Football Adds Hendrix To Their 2024 Schedule

MONTGOMERY,Ala.- Huntingdon Hawks football, coming off an 8-2 season and a runner-up finish in the USA South, has released their schedule for the 2024 season.

The Hawks open their season on September 7th at home looking to take down the Berry Vikings, who defeated the Hawks 67-34 last season. The Vikings finished 2nd in the SAA with an overall record of 9-1 and a conference record of 7-1

With the recent announcement of the closing of Birmingham-Southern College, Huntingdon has scheduled a home-away series with the Hendrix Warriors of the SAA. Last season, Hendrix finished fifth in the conference with an overall record of 3-7 and a conference record of 3-5.

Head Coach Mike Turk on the upcoming season:

"We begin with a very tough Berry team, so we will find out early what we are made of.  The open week after that will hopefully be an opportunity for us to address whatever issues are exposed week 1, and then we will play 9 straight weeks. Conference play begins in week 3, with a non-conference trip to Hendrix in week 4, then the rest of our conference schedule. With our second game being a conference game, we have less time to prepare for conference play than in years past.  This will most certainly put more importance on what we accomplish during training camp come August."

After finishing as the conference runner-up last season, the Hawks are looking to return to the top of the conference standings after winning two of the last three USA South conference championships.

Huntingdon opens conference play on September 21st at home against NC Wesleyan, who the Hawks defeated 21-0 in the final regular season game last season. The September 28th road trip to Hendrix puts a pause in conference play before playing seven consecutive weeks of USA South opponents. The Hawks host the reigning USA South champion Belhaven Blazers on October 5th and look to avenge their 29-3 loss from last season in week four. The Hawks follow up with two consecutive away games against Methodist and Maryville, before returning to Montgomery for a battle against the Brevard Tornadoes, who Huntingdon defeated 31-27 last season following a massive second half comeback. Following Brevard, Huntingdon hosts the LaGrange Panthers before traveling to take on Southern Virginia, then closing out their season at home against the Greensboro Pride.
