Huntingdon baseball falls to Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. – The Huntingdon baseball team had eight hits and scored six runs but fell to Millsaps 10-6 in a game that ended late Saturday night. The loss was the final game for the Hawks (1-2) in the Millsaps College Invitational.

Millsaps (1-1) scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 7-3 lead and added three more runs in the sixth inning to go ahead 10-3.

Senior Keegan Lambeth led Huntingdon at the plate with two hits and three RBIs. Lambeth was the only Hawk with multiple hits. Caleb Astin and Jordan Freeman each scored twice. Astin also had two stolen bases.

Huntingdon opened its scoring in the first inning. A Joseph Odom sacrifice fly scored Grant Brown and a Lambeth single scored Astin. Huntingdon added another run in the fourth inning when Freeman scored on a Seth Currie ground out.

A Lambeth double scored Odom and Astin in the top of the seventh and Freeman scored the Hawks' final run on an error in the eighth inning.

Gavin Free (0-1) took the loss for Huntingdon, striking out eight, walking two and allowing five hits and four earned runs.

Huntingdon returns to action on Feb. 16 at Posey Field. Game 1 of the doubleheader with Oglethorpe is set for 1 p.m.
