Huntingdon baseball pounds out season-high 15 hits in win over Emory

ATLANTA – Nine players combined for a season-high 15 hits as the Huntingdon baseball team defeated Emory 14-7 on Saturday.

The win was the Hawks' second against Emory in two days. Huntingdon (8-4) won 5-1 on Friday. The three-game series concludes on Sunday at Emory (5-4) at noon.

Caleb Astin led the Hawks on Saturday with three hits, four RBIs and a run. Joseph Odom added three hits, a RBI and two runs, Seth Currie finished with two hits, two RBIs and two runs and Austin White had two hits and two runs. Grant Brown and Trey Smith also scored two runs apiece.

Huntingdon took a 4-2 lead into the fifth inning before breaking the game open. The Hawks scored six runs in the fifth inning, a run in the sixth and three runs in the top of the eighth inning to build a 14-5 lead.

Leading by two runs in the fifth, Huntingdon loaded the bases with one out. Emory walked three straight batters to bring in three runs before Astin cleared the bases with a three-run double to make it a 10-2 game.

Cory Belyeu (2-0) picked up the win for the Hawks in five innings.
