Huntingdon baseball falls to Oglethorpe in the 9th inning

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team gave up two runs in the top of the ninth inning and fell to Oglethorpe 7-5 on Saturday. The Hawks (1-3) managed one hit in the bottom of the ninth, but hit into a double play to end the game.

Freshman Will Pharis led the Hawks at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and a RBI. Pharis was the only Huntingdon player with multiple hits.

Huntingdon took a 4-1 lead in the third inning. Trammell DeJarnett scored on a Marks Abernathy single and Landon Sessions scored on an error for the Hawks' first two runs. A Pharis single scored Abernathy before Gavin Free was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Pharis.

Oglethorpe (1-0) answered with four runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-4 lead. The Hawks tied the game in the fifth as Victor Taylor drove in Pharis.

Tate Fowler (0-1) took the loss for Huntingdon in relief of starter Joseph Fincher.

Huntingdon and Oglethorpe will play a doubleheader on Saturday at Posey Field. Game 1 is set for noon.
