Huntingdon baseball improves to 5-0 in USA South

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team turned in its best offensive performance of the young season in a 12-2 win over LaGrange on Saturday.

The Hawks (9-3, 5-0 USA South) matched their season-high with 13 hits and scored a season-high 12 runs to pick up their eighth straight win. The win was the second in this weekend's three-game series with the Panthers (2-7, 0-2 USA South). The series concludes on Sunday at Posey Field at 2 p.m.

Freshman third baseman Will Pharis led the Hawks with three RBIs, three runs and his first collegiate home run on a 2-for-3 day. Pharis' two-run homer in the sixth-inning gave Huntingdon an 11-1 lead.

Junior second baseman Jordan Freeman hit his first home run of the season with a two-run homer in the second inning. Senior center fielder Trammell DeJarnett was 3-for-5 with a RBI and two runs, senior first baseman Tyler Blackwell was 2-for-4 with a RBI, two runs and two stolen bases and sophomore short stop Landon Sessions was 2-for-4 with a run.

Freshman catcher Austin Clanton drove in two runs and scored once and senior left fielder Gavin Free had a RBI and a run.

Sophomore Jackson Cruce (3-0) earned the win in seven innings. Cruce struck out three, allowed four hits and one earned run. Sophomore Dalton Dalrymple struck out two in one inning of relief before senior Mitchell Luckie closed out the game in the ninth.
