Huntingdon baseball holds off Greensboro in Game 1 of conference series

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team scored four runs in the first four innings and held off Greensboro for a 4-3 win on Friday night.

The game was the first of a three-game conference series at Posey Field. The Hawks (13-5, 9-1 USA South) and the Pride (2-10, 1-8 USA South) will wrap up the series with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is set for noon.

Huntingdon took a 4-1 lead in the fourth inning but Greensboro scored a run in the sixth inning and a run in the eighth to make it a one-run game entering the ninth inning.

Huntingdon closer Neil Lawler gave up a single to start the ninth but forced a liner to third and two fly balls to right field to end the game and pick up his fifth save. The final out came with the tying run on third.

Joseph Fincher (4-0) picked up the win in five innings, striking out six, walking five and allowing four hits and one unearned run. Dalton Dalrymple pitched three innings, striking out two, walking two and allowing three hits, one earned run and one unearned run.

Left Fielder Patrick Kucera scored the Hawks' first two runs. The sophomore scored on a Tyler Blackwell sacrifice fly in the first inning and scored on a Greensboro error in the third inning.

In the fourth inning, second baseman Jordan Freeman singled to score third baseman Will Pharis and right fielder Gavin Free scored on a sacrifice bunt by short stop Landon Sessions.

Blackwell, Free, Freeman and designated hitter Cheston Wesson accounted for Huntingdon's four hits.
