Huntingdon falls to Emory in Game 1 of baseball series

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team fell to Emory 8-0 on Friday night in Game 1 of a three-game series.

The Hawks (21-15) gave up four runs in the first five innings and four runs in the eighth inning. Emory (27-10), the second-ranked team in the South Region, held Huntingdon to three hits in the first seven innings and six hits for the game.

Senior Gavin Free (5-5) took the loss, striking out nine, walking three and allowing 11 hits and four runs in 7 1/3 innings. Free has 76 strikeouts in 73 innings this season and 148 strikeouts in 142 2/3 innings the past two seasons.

Dalton Dalrymple, Philip Neal and Trey Worthington pitched the final 1 2/3 innings.

Courtney Moss, Grant Hayes, Patrick Kucera, Trammell DeJarnett, Jordan Freeman and Landon Sessions each had one hit for Huntingdon.

Game 2 of the series is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday at Posey Field. Game 3 will be played at Emory on Sunday at 1 p.m.
