Huntingdon shuts out Belhaven in season opener

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – Senior pitchers Carden Mellown and John Crawford combined for a four-hit shutout as the Huntingdon baseball team beat Belhaven 2-0 in the Firehouse Classic on Saturday night.

Mellown earned the win in six innings, striking out eight, walking one, hitting one batter and allowing one hit. Crawford pitched the final three innings for the save, striking out three, walking two and allowing three hits.

Huntingdon managed six hits in the game and scored one run in the second inning and one run in the fourth inning.

With two outs in the bottom of the second inning, Chris Fisher drew a bases-loaded walk that scored Tri Overby for a 1-0 lead. Huntingdon went ahead 2-0 in the fourth inning when Bradley Harris stole home.

Huntingdon's game was the third of the day in the Firehouse Classic. Randolph-Macon won the first two games on Saturday, beating Rhodes College 6-3 and Belhaven 9-3.

Coming Up: Huntingdon will host Rhodes in a doubleheader on Sunday during the final day of the Firehouse Classic. Game 1 is set for noon.
