Hawks Sweep Sunday Double Header Against Middlebury and Millsaps

MONTGOMERY,Ala. To cap off the Firehouse Classic, Huntingdon baseball (7-4) defeated Middlebury (1-2 overall) and Millsaps (10-4 overall) in a double header with scores of 10-9 and 1-0. The Hawks came back from down 4 runs to defeat Middlebury, and freshman pitcher JB Landrum pitched a shutout in the last game to hold off the Millsaps Majors.

 

Game 1 vs Middlebury

 

Highlights

  • The Hawks took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a sacrifice fly from Daniel Patton bringing home Noah Phillips being followed by a passed ball allowing Cade Morgan to score

  • Middlebury responded in the next frame with a double bringing home their first run of the day

  • Not to be outdone, Noah Phillips singled to left field in the bottom of the second, bringing home Christian Lasecki and Byron McClain to give the Hawks a 4-1 lead

  • Middlebury came back in the top of the 3rd inning with two runs to cut the lead to 4-3

  • After a scoreless 4th inning, Middlebury took the lead with a massive 5 run frame 8-4

  • The Panthers followed their offensive tear with another run in the top of the 6th to take 9-4 advantage

  • Huntingdon started to claw their way back into the game in the bottom of the 6th inning with 2 runs coming from John Hale and Cade Morgan

  • Seth Killam doubled in the bottom of the 7th inning, bringing home Christian Lasecki and Byron McClain to put the Hawks behind by just one point, 9-8

  • To win the game, the Hawks scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning courtesy of back to back wild pitches from the Panthers. Daniel Phillips found home for the Hawks 10th run, completing the comeback

On the Mound

  • Jable Ramey started on the mound for the Hawks, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits and striking out two batters

  • Jackson Joiner came on to the mound next for Huntingdon, allowing 5 runs on 5 hits with 2 strikeouts

  • Gavin Gomez relieved Joiner and closed the game for the Hawks, allowing 1 run on 5 hits with 2 strikeouts

 

Game 2 vs Millsaps

Highlights

  • In a game dominated by defense, the Hawks lone run came in the bottom of the first inning with Noah Phillips finding home on a ground out from Daniel Patton

  • Freshman JB Landrum earned the start for Huntingdon and pitched a complete game. He did not allow any base hits until the 6th inning and kept the Majors off the scoreboard all game.

  • In the final inning, Landrum struck out two Majors en route to the Hawks victory. On the day, he struck out 9 Millsaps batters and did not walk any.

 

The Hawks look to continue their winning streak on March 5th in a home duel with Oglethorpe University. Gametime is scheduled for 4:00 PM CT.
