Huntingdon's Hot Hitting Carries The Hawks Past Berea

BEREA,Ky.- To kick off their second conference series of the season, Huntingdon baseball(13-8 overall, 4-1 CCS) earned a pair of wins on the road against the Berea Mountaineers(5-16 overall, 0-4 CCS), winning the first game 9-3 and the second 14-2. The bats were hot for the Hawks, and that success at the plate piloted Huntingdon to two huge wins.

 

Game one highlights

  • Following a scoreless first inning, Jabez Sampson kicked off the scoring for the Hawks with a single that brought home Daniel Patton for Huntingdon's first run of the game

  • Later in the same frame, Daniel Phillips returned the favor to Sampson, bringing him home with a single to put the Hawks ahead 2-0 entering the bottom frame of the second inning

  • The Mountaineers responded in the following frame with a run to cut the Huntingdon lead to 2-1 going into the third inning

  • With no runs being scored in the third inning, the next run came for the Hawks with a Daniel Phillips single bringing home Jabez Sampson to push the lead to 3-1

  • Cade Morgan followed Phillips at the next at bat with a single that brought Jordan Raley to bring the score to 4-1

  • Still hot, Noah Phillips singled at the next at bat to bring in Daniel Phillips to give Huntingdon a 5-1 lead going into the fifth inning

  • A sacrifice fly from Christian Lasecki in the fifth inning brought in Daniel Patton to grow the Huntingdon lead to 6-1

  • A Jordan Raley double within the same frame brought in Jabez Sampson to extend the lead to 7-1

  • Not done yet, Raley crossed home plate off a Daniel Phillips single to bring the score to 8-1

  • Berea stopped the bleeding in the eighth inning with two runs, but the Hawks scored another run off a sacrifice fly from Jordan Raley to walk away with a 9-3 victory.

On the mound

  • JB Landrum earned the start and the win for the Hawks, allowing one run on four hits and throwing five strikeouts

  • Gavin Gomez followed Landrum on the mound with two runs allowed on three hits and one strikeout

  • Seth Killam closed the game for the Hawks,striking out three Mountaineers and not allowing any hits or runs

 

Game two highlights

  • In the opening frame, Daniel Phillips crossed home plate off a sacrifice fly from his twin, Noah Phillips, to put Huntingdon ahead 1-0

  • After holding the Mountaineers scoreless for the second inning in a row, a Davis Johnson single brought home Cade Morgan to bring the lead to 2-0 to kick off the third inning

  • Still dominating defensively, the next run of the game came for the Hawks in the fourth inning with Daniel Phillips flying out to bring home Jabez Sampson to extend the lead to 3-0

  • Cade Morgan followed Phillips with a single shot home run to bring the score to 4-0 going into the fifth inning

  • John Hale kicked off the fifth inning with a single to secure the Hawks fifth run of the day from Matthew Robinson

  • Jordan Raley followed up with a double to bring Hale and Davis Johnson home, pushing the lead to 7-0

  • Another double from Daniel Phillips brought in Raley to make the score 8-0

  • Cade Morgan followed his home run with a single in the same frame to bring in Daniel Phillips for the Hawks ninth run

  • Morgan managed to steal home later in the frame to grow the lead to 10-0

  • To close the inning, a Matthew Robinson single brought home Daniel Phillips to put Huntingdon ahead 11-0 entering the sixth inning

  • Following another excellent defensive inning, Huntingdon grew their lead to 12-0 with a run from Davis Johnson

  • A balk in the seventh inning brought home Noah Phillips to make the score 13-0

  • A Daniel Patton single in the same frame allowed Matthew Robinson to cross home plate and put Huntingdon ahead 14-0

  • The Mountaineers closed the game with two runs in the seventh inning, but Huntingdon still managed to walk away with a 14-2 victory

On the mound

  • Jable Ramey pitched a complete game for the Hawks, two runs on five hits with four strikeouts

 

The Hawks complete their series at Berea tomorrow, March 30th, with a matchup scheduled to begin at 12:00 PM CT.
