Hawks Split With Belhaven To Close Series

 

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Hawks  (16-14 overall, 6-6 CCS) split with the Blazers of Belhaven University (20-14 overall, 9-5 CCS). Belhaven won the first game with a 12-5 score as the Hawks struggled to slow down the Blazer's offense. The Hawks finished the day with a close 6-5 win against the Blazers late in the ninth inning. 


Game 1 - Huntingdon 5  Belhaven 12

 

Highlights

  • In the top of the first inning, The Blazers' got on the board first going 2-0 early

  • Huntingdon strikes back in the bottom of the third inning, with a run from Cade Morgan off of a double by Matthew Robinson. 2-1

  • Between the fourth and fifth innings, both defenses kept the opposition from scoring runs. 2-1

  • Belhaven scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning bringing their lead to 6-1.

  • The Hawks rallied in the bottom of the seventh scoring four runs of their own, cutting the lead down to 6-5

  • The Blazers finished the game scoring six runs in the top of the eighth inning, making the final score 12-5

 

On the Mound

  • #34 Jacob McFarling faced 24 batters throwing 44 strikes out of 86 pitches

  • #14 Gavin Gomez followed up throwing 19 strikes out of 35 pitches against 14 batters. 

  • #38 Jackson Joiner closed for the Hawks, facing 12 batters with 19 strikes out of 37 pitches. 



Game 2 - Huntingdon 6 Belhaven 5 

 

Highlights 

  • The Hawks scored early with two runs in the bottom of the first coming from Cade Morgan and Matt Robinson. 0-2

  • Neither offense could get around the bases for the second and third innings. 

  • In the top of the fourth inning, Belhaven answered with two of their own runs to tie it up. 2-2

  • In the bottom of the fifth inning, Huntingdon scored another run. This time, coming from Cade Morgan. Hawks take the lead 2-3

  • In the bottom of the sixth inning, both Daniel Phillips and Dylan Hyder scored runs for the Hawks. The lead extends to 2-5.

  • In the top of the seventh inning, Belhaven scored a run, cutting the lead down to 3-5. 

  • The Blazers scored two runs to tie the score at 5-5 in the top of the eighth.

  • The Hawks sealed the victory in the bottom of the ninth inning with Ethan Duhon scoring the final run. 

 

On the Mound

  • #10 Seth Killam faced 34 batters throwing 71 strikes out of a total of 117 pitches

  • #5 Sam Tompkins closed for the Hawks, throwing 9 strikes out of 16 pitches against 5 batters.  

 

The Hawks look forward to a road series against Piedmont beginning on Friday April 26th. Gametime is scheduled for 6:00 PM CT.
