Hawks Go Cold In Series Opener At Piedmont

DEMORREST,Ga.- In their series opener, Huntingdon baseball(16-15 overall, 5-6 CCS) fell to the Lions of Piedmont University(23-12 overall, 10-3 CCS) 4-0. Piedmont controlled the game from the jump on the mound, limiting the Hawks to just five hits throughout the contest.

Following a scoreless first inning, the Lions got on the board in the bottom frame of the second inning, walking in their first run of the game. Huntingdon was able to force the third out at the next at-bat, but were not able to respond in the third inning. The next four innings were controlled by each team's defense, with only two base hits being recorded. Piedmont scored their second and third runs in the seventh inning with a double. With Huntingdon still searching for their rhythm at the plate, Piedmont was able to take advantage, scoring their fourth and final run in the eighth inning to secure the first game of the series.

On the mound

  • Jable Ramey started for Huntingdon, allowing three runs on eight hits with five strikeouts through six innings
  • Gavin Gomez closed the game for the Hawks, allowing one run on one hit with a strikeout

The Hawks return to Loudermilk Field for game two tomorrow, April 27th. Gametime is scheduled for 2:00 PM CT.
