Pearcy draws praise from former NFL head coach Bill Parcells

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon senior Cody Pearcy is continuing to gain attention as the NFL Draft approaches.

In addition to coverage from newspapers, television stations and radio programs across Alabama and Georgia, the Phenix City native is continuing to gain national exposure as well.

Tuesday night, former NFL head coach Bill Parcells brought up Pearcy's name on ESPN as a potential sleeper pick in this weekend's NFL Draft. Parcells' mention of Pearcy has created interest on message boards, Facebook and Twitter.

ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted before Tuesday's show, "Bill Parcells sleeper pick on his Draft Confidential show tonight: Cody Pearcy WR/Huntingdon (Ala) College. Guy looked super quick."

Pearcy drew mention on the website nj.com as The Star-Ledger's Mike Garafolo reported on the segment. Garafolo's final item in a story about players the New York Giants have brought in leading up to the Draft began:

"And finally, I don't know if Huntingdon (Ala.) College WR Cody Pearcy visited the Giants but we do know he wowed one of the team's scouts, Joe Collins.

"How do we know that? Well for one, Bill Parcells mentioned Pearcy as a sleeper at the tail end of his NFL Draft special on ESPN Tuesday night."

Garafolo went on to say ESPN ran a clip of Pearcy's pro day workout at Alabama State University which showed Collins' "stunned look" in reaction to Pearcy's times.

Also this week, Pearcy was mentioned in SI.com for a second time. SI.com first mentioned Pearcy in March, shortly after the workout at ASU. The most recent mention was in an article titled "A behind-the-scenes look at what goes into an NFL Draft telecast."

In a section describing what is involved in editing video for clips that run during ESPN's draft coverage, Richard Deitsch describes the process of finding signature plays for prospects. Deitsch wrote, "It's a project that extends from the University of Alabama to Division III Huntingdon College in Alabama (the alma mater of wide receiver Cody Pearcy, a late round prospect this year.)"

The NFL Draft begins at 7 p.m. Central on Thursday with Round 1. Rounds 2-3 are scheduled for Friday, beginning at 6 p.m. Rounds 4-7 will be on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. The Draft will be televised by ESPN and the NFL Network and can be viewed online at NFL.com.
