MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon College athletic department recently released its 2016 football schedule.

The defending USA South Athletic Conference champions will face challenges each week as they try to duplicate the success of 2015.

Like last season, Huntingdon will open with three straight non-conference games before facing a seven-game stretch in the USA South Athletic Conference. Unlike last season, the Hawks will face two of their three non-conference opponents at home, but will only have three conference games at home.

"We are excited about our schedule for next season," Huntingdon head coach Mike Turk said. "The non-conference portion is challenging, but it does contain two home games.

"As our conference continues to improve in strength from top to bottom, we will have to continue to improve ourselves in order to be competitive each week. All-in-all, our schedule offers several challenging road games in tough environments, as well as some home games against rivals that should create awesome game day environments for our players to experience."

The Hawks will open the season at Louisiana College on Sept. 3 before returning to Samford Stadium on Sept. 10 to host Birmingham-Southern. The 6 p.m. in-state battle will be just the second home night game in program history.

Huntingdon will close out its non-conference schedule at home on Sept. 17 against Belhaven University before having a bye during the final week of September.

Huntingdon will play five games in October for a second straight season. The Hawks open conference play the road at N.C. Wesleyan on Oct. 1 before a pair of home games against Ferrum (Oct. 8) and LaGrange (Oct. 15). Huntingdon will travel to Methodist on Oct. 22 before closing the month at home against Greensboro on Oct. 29.

Huntingdon will play two road games to close out the regular season with trips to Maryville on Nov. 5 and Averett on Nov. 12.
