This week is NCAA Division III Week and member institutions across the country are celebrating the 10th-year event.

Division III Week, which runs from Monday through Sunday, is intended to recognize the academic and athletic accomplishments as well as the campus leadership and community service efforts of Division III student-athletes.

As part of Huntingdon College's participation in Division III Week, six student-athletes will be featured this week. Kelvin Bowser is today's featured student-athlete.

Name: Kelvin Bowser

Year: Senior

Hometown: Chattanooga, Tenn.

Major: History

Sport: Football

Athletic Accomplishments: Bowser was a three-year player for the football team and a part of two USA South Athletic Conference championships, one NCAA playoff appearance and the second playoff victory in program history. He began his Huntingdon career as a defensive back before switching to receiver this season and leading the Hawks in receptions and receiving yards.

Academic Achievements and Campus Activities: Bowser was named to the USA South All-Sportsmanship team this season, has been named to the Huntingdon Dean's List of High Honors, the USA South Academic All-Conference team and is a nominee for the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame's Hampshire Honor Society this season. He is Vice President of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., is a member of the Huntingdon College Ambassadors, Gamma Sigma Alpha honor society and the Order of Omega, which is the honor society for those who participate in Greek life.

What made you feel like Huntingdon was the right place for you? "Once I arrived at football camp and started talking with Keke (Thornton) my first year, it was then that I knew I was in the right place. Having someone who grew up in a similar situation as I did and pushing to achieve the same goals as myself was like a light going off in my head telling me this is where I needed to be."

As a student-athlete, what is your impression of Division III now compared to your first season? "Division III athletes grind way harder than I thought before coming here. The workouts are crazy intense, the games get super passionate and the community that comes with it is like no other place and I've experienced my fair share of Division I program gameday energy."

What advice would you give our current underclassmen and incoming recruits to better prepare them for the next few years?  "Have an open mind about the journey you are about to embark on, buy in and drop your egos. Everyone here is fighting just like you to be on the field, don't think it will be handed to you."

How has your experience at Huntingdon prepared you for life after Huntingdon? "My experience has been one of patience and understanding that everyone does their own job to help the bigger picture. Regardless of what the job may be, you still are the main character in your story and the community here wants to see you succeed."
