Hawks Shut Down Methodist, 48-21

Montgomery, Ala.-Huntingdon Football defeated Methodist University, 48-21. The Hawks are now 2-0 in conference and 2-2 overal.

With 3:44 left in the 1st quarter, Landon Cotney found Malachi Harvey for a 29 yard touchdown pass. The Monarchs returned the favor with 26 seconds left in the first quarter but the Hawks blocked the extra point.

Malachi Harvey scored a touchdown at 11:27 in the 2nd quarter after catching a pass from Cotney and rushing 80 yards. Methodist completed an 8 yard pass for a touchdown at 9:11 of the 2nd quarter, making it 14-13 going into the half.

At 5:59 in the 3rd quarter, Kahari McReynolds ran 24 yards for a touchdown, making it 21-13. Landon Cotney completed a 17 yard run with 24 seconds left in the 3rd quarter. 

Methodist opened the scoring in the 4th quarter with a 5 yard touchdown run but the Hawks answered a minute later with Cotney completing a 17-yard pass to Grant Murray. The Hawks didn't look back, adding another touchdown on Cotney's 33 yard run and EJ Lackey's 24 yard run. 

Casey Peppers had 3 sacks for a total loss of 45 yards. Landon Cotney had 14 rushing attempts for 125 yards. He was 11-16 with 180 passing yards.

"We're pleased to be 2-0. We found a way to win both games," Head Coach Mike Turk said. "I'm proud of the effort and proud of the way our guys fought."

The Hawks travel to Southern Virginia on Saturday, October 9. Game time is set for 12 PM CST.
