Hawks Come Back to Defeat Maryville

Maryville, Tn.-Huntingdon Football defeated Maryville, 42-28.

Maryville took a 7-0 lead at 9:49 of the first quarter with a 19-yard touchdown pass. The Hawks answered back on a 4-yard rush from Kahari McReynolds to tie the game at 7 at 8:16. A 37-yard touchdown pass gave Maryville a 14-7 lead through the first quarter. 

Hawks quarterback Landon Cotney found McReynolds on a 52-yard pass to tie the game at 14 just 30 seconds into the second quarter. Back-to-back touchdowns by Maryville made it 28-14 going into halftime. 

The Huntingdon offense battled back in the second half, with Cotney completing a 40-yard pass to McReynolds at 14:37 of the third quarter to make it 28-21. Just one minute later, Cotney completed a 50-yard touchdown pass to Conner Bradford, tying the game at 28. 

At 7:17 of the fourth quarter, Cotney rushed 8 yards for a touchdown to make it 35-28. Troy Garner extended the lead for the Hawks at 4:45 on a 3-yard rush, making it 42-28.

Landon Cotney was 12-26 with 272 yards and 3 touchdowns. Kahari McReynolds had 18 carries for 83 yards and 1 touchdown and 3 receptions for 92 yards and 2 touchdowns. Conner Bradford totaled 2 catches for 111 yards with 1 touchdown. 

Casey Peppers led the defense with 9 tackles, including 1 sack and 1 tackle for loss. Tucker Spence also totaled 9 tackles with 1 interception. 

"I am proud of the way that we fought back in the second half to get back in the game," Head Coach Mike Turk said. "Maryville took it to us in the first half but we responded well and finished the game strong. We were fortunate to win the game."
