Hawks Outlast Methodist

Fayetteville, NC.-Huntingdon Football defeated Methodist, 38-35.

Quarterback Landon Cotney completed a 34-yard touchdown pass to Conner Bradford to give the Hawks a 7-0 less than one minute into the game. Methodist answered back at 10:40 on a 23-yard touchdown pass and took a 14-7 lead at 5:06 on a 16-yard touchdown pass.

At 14:12 of the second quarter, Will Edwards kicked a 27-yard field goal to make it 14-10. Methodist extended the lead to 21-10 on a 75-yard touchdown pass at 10:56. Cotney completed a 4-yard pass to Kyler Chaney for a touchdown to make it 21-17 at 7:38. The Hawks regained the lead at 3:11 of the second quarter on a 4-yard rush by Cotney. 

Cotney connected with Corey Brown on a 19-yard touchdown pass at 9:24 of the third quarter to give the Hawks a 31-21 lead. With 1 minute left in the third quarter, Cotney threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to Conner Bradford, making it 38-21. Methodist scored with 20 seconds left in the third quarter to make it 38-28. 

Methodist came close with a touchdown at 13:56 of the fourth quarter to make it 38-35 but the Hawks held on for the win.

Cotney was 20-35 with 360 yards and 4 touchdowns. Conner Bradford had 3 catches for 106 yards and 2 touchdowns. Kahari McReynolds had 26 carries for 51 yards. 

Tyrell Davis and Miller Park led the defense with 6 total tackles each. 

"I am really proud of the way our guys hung in there and battled today," Head Coach Mike Turk said. "Methodist played well and outplayed us in a lot of ways but our guys found a way to win. We will enjoy this one, but we are back to work on Monday."

The Hawks return home for Homecoming on Saturday, October 29th, against Greensboro. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM CST.
