Football Earns Conference Win over LaGrange

 

LAGRANGE, Ga. – Huntingdon College football increased their overall record to 3-1 and earned their first conference win on the road over LaGrange, 41-6.

The Hawks had the opening kickoff and Will Edwards kicked it 57 yards and the Panthers secured 19 yards before the start of their first drive.

Huntingdon's defense found success early limiting the Panthers to three plays and seven yards to force the first punt of the game.

First and ten, Hawks ball on the Huntingdon 37, Carson Daniels threw three complete passes with a total of 30 yards that ended in a touchdown pass to Tyler England for the Hawks first 6. Will Edwards PAT was successful to grant a 7-0 lead with 9:25 remaining in the first quarter.

With 6:23 to go in the first, the Panthers finished a 7 play, 50-yard drive with a two-yard rushing touchdown. The PAT attempt was unsuccessful as the Hawks kept the 7-6 lead.

The Hawks first drive of the second half was reliant on two big receptions, one from England for 24-yards, and the final from Timothy McReynolds to the LaGrange endzone for 17-yards. (14-6).

Defense followed up the touchdown with a three-play, 8-yard stop to give their team the ball back.

Huntingdon took their time with a 46-yard drive in 3:25. Troy Garner rushed for 14-yards in the drive and Carson Daniels continued to throw the ball for three completions and another Hawks touchdown from Will PilgrimWill Edwards connected his third PAT of the day and shot the Hawks up 21-6.

Before the end of the first half, Huntingdon's defense held off the Panthers and Edwards soared a field goal through the posts to give the Hawks a 24-6 advantage.

After halftime, both teams could not convert their first drive, but the hawks kicked in back into action with a 56-yard drive to follow. Troy Garner rushed 4-yards to capture six more points and Edwards finished with a made PAT (31-6).

To start the fourth quarter, Edwards continued to add points for the Hawks with a 21-yard field goal after a 10-play, 33-yard drive by the Hawks offense (34-6).

James Cheatham was the star of the Hawks final touchdown drive with 10 attempts for 40-yards and a Huntingdon touchdown with a little under four minutes to go in the game (41-6).

Huntingdon doubled the number of yards the Panthers had with 420 to LaGrange's 146.

The Hawks were 3-3 on fourth down conversions.

The Panthers had 6 first downs compared to the Hawks 27.
