Thomas and Haggerty Earn Player of the Week Honors

DECATUR,Ga.- Heading into the final month before the conference tournament, Lindsay Haggerty of Wesleyan and Jeremiah Thomas of Huntingdon claim this week's Great South Athletic Conference player of the week honors after putting up solid stats for their squads in the last seven days of play. This marks the first time either athlete has been given the award this season.

Haggerty helped Wesleyan to a 2-1 week, picking up both wins against Salem College. The wins snapped a 52-game conference losing streak and marks the first GSAC win streak since joining the league. Against LaGrange she had 20 points, six rebounds and three steals. In 37 minutes against Salem, she had 10 points, nine rebounds and one steal. In their home contest against Salem, she powered 18 points, 12 rebounds and three steals.

Through three games, Haggerty averaged 16 points, nine rebounds, 2.3 steals in 38 minutes per game. Currently, she is third in the conference in points per game with 14.5, seventh in rebounds with 6.9 and ninth in free throw percentage at 70 percent.

Giving the Huntingdon men their second straight player of the week award, Thomas helped the squad to a 2-1 week. He averaged 19.7 points, 11 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in wins over Pensacola Christian and Covenant and a loss to LaGrange.

Thomas recorded a career-high 26 points and 17 rebounds against Pensacola Christian and also had two blocks and two steals, had 19 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks against Lagrange and 14 points, four rebounds and two blocks against Covenant. Thomas is fifth in the conference in points per game with 13 and second in rebounds with 8.1.
