Covington and Edgar Nab Player of the Week Honors

DECATUR, Ga.- After a strong week of performances, the Great South Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the winners of this week's player of the week honors, Katie Covington of LaGrange and Courtnee Edgar of Huntingdon. This is the first time the duo has received the award this season.

Proving to be a threat on offense, Covington helped the Panthers to remain unbeaten in conference play after two strong wins last week. Covington led LaGrange to GSAC wins over previously unbeaten and 18th-ranked Piedmont and Covenant.

She averaged 28.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, shot 66.7 percent from the floor (16-of-24) and 92.3 percent from the line (24-of-26). She had a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds against Piedmont. She had 33 points against Covenant, including her 1,000th career point.

Covington currently sit atop the conference stats,averaging 17.7 points per game, third in field goal percentage with .510 and fourth in rebounding with 7.7 per game through 15 contests.

Edgar had a breakout week for the Hawks helping them to a 2-0 week. He set new career highs with 22 points, eight rebounds and three steals to lead Huntingdon to an 87-74 win over Maryville on Saturday. The win snapped a 14-game losing streak to the Scots, dating to the 2006 GSAC tournament. Earlier in the week, Edgar scored 15 points in a 75-57 win over Berry on Tuesday.

LaGrange and Huntingdon men and women get a chance to face-off tonight as the Hawks travel to LaGrange, Ga. for a double header. The women's game is set to tip-off at 5:00 p.m. with the men after at 8:00 p.m.
