MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team appeared to be in control early Saturday against Berry College.
But the Vikings rallied late and Huntingdon came up short 69-61 in its home opener at Roland Arena.
Huntingdon (0-3) scored the first 12 points of the game and led by as many as 13 points in the first half. But Berry (1-3) rallied and cut it to three late in the first half. The Hawks led 36-28 at the half and maintained a lead until the final 10 minutes of the game.
Berry cut it to a point twice in the first 10 minutes of the second half, but each time Huntingdon was able to answer. When the Vikings took a 53-51 lead with 7:34 to play in the game, the Hawks weren't able to answer. Berry eased ahead to a seven-point lead and closed the game with a 19-10 run.
Bill Donaldson and Raheem Berry each scored 12 points for the Hawks and Jerome Davis added nine points, nine rebounds and five assists.
Huntingdon hosts Rust on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
