Huntingdon beats Piedmont for first conference win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Sophomore Damien Madison scored a career-high 25 points and junior Ceaunte Zachery turned in his first double-double of the season to lead the Huntingdon men's basketball team in a 78-62 win over Piedmont on Saturday.

Madison's 25 points led all scorers. Madison, who is averaging 17 points per game, scored 11 of the Hawks' first 13 points in the second half and finished with 19 points in the final 17 minutes.

Zachery, who is averaging 12.4 points per game, finished with 15 points and a season-high 10 rebounds. Aaron Washington added 13 points, Caleb Toney had a game-high six steals and five rebounds and Logan Goree finished with five rebounds.

The Hawks led for almost the entire game, trailing for less than two minutes in the game. Huntingdon led by as many as nine points in the first half, carried a 33-30 lead into halftime and began to pull away in the second half.

The Hawks extended their lead to 49-40 midway through the second half and led 49-44 with 8:50 to play. From there, the Hawks used a basket by Madison, a pair of free throws by Washington and a basket by Zachery to build a double-digit lead, 55-44.

The Hawks led by at least eight points for the remainder of the game and extended their lead to as many 16 points.
