Huntingdon falls at Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn.  – The Huntingdon men's basketball team battled Maryville College into the final minutes before falling behind in a 79-67 loss on Saturday.

In another close game for the Hawks, neither team led by more than eight points until the final 30 seconds of the game. Huntingdon took its largest lead, 46-38, with 12:08 to play and Maryville took its first eight-point lead, 68-60, with 3:09 to play.

With 1:09 remaining, Huntingdon only trailed by three points, 70-67. But the Scots closed the game with a 9-0 run, building a double-digit lead in the final 21 seconds.

Despite the loss, the Hawks remain in second place in the West Division of the USA South Athletic Conference with a 6-6 conference record. Covenant leads the West Division with a 9-3 conference record.

Balanced scoring set the tone for Huntingdon as seven players scored between six and 12 points. Jacob Champion scored 12 points for the Hawks and Cam Boyd added 11 points. Charvez' Hobson and Mykel Woods each had nine points and seven rebounds.

Damien Madison added eight points and Caleb Toney had seven points and eight rebounds. James Harris finished with six points, a game-high six assists and three steals.
