Huntingdon leads from start to finish in win over LaGrange

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Huntingdon men's basketball team took the lead in the opening minute and never trailed in a 73-66 win over LaGrange College on Wednesday night.

Damien Madison led Huntingdon with his second 30-plus point game of the season. Madison, who scored a career-high 33 points against Brevard in January, scored 31 points against LaGrange.

The sophomore ranks second in the USA South in total points scored (441) this season and is third in the conference in points per game (18.4). Madison was 9-for-13 from the field and 11-for-12 from the free-throw line on Wednesday.

Madison leads the USA South with 151 free throws made this season. Entering Wednesday's game, he was ranked 12th in Division III in free throws made and fourth in free-throw percentage for players with at least 170 attempts.

James Harris added 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists against LaGrange and Aaron Washington had 10 points. Charvez' Hobson pulled down 13 rebounds and Caleb Toney and Mykel Woods each had five rebounds.

The Hawks built a 10-point lead in the first seven minutes of the game and led by 14 points, 27-13, with 9:20 left in the first half. The Hawks led by at least six points for the remainder of the first half and carried a 40-33 lead into halftime.

LaGrange cut Huntingdon's lead to two points, 43-41, early in the second half, but Huntingdon did not give up the lead. The Hawks answered and eased ahead to a six-point lead, 49-43, midway through the second half.

The Hawks maintained at least a four-point lead and led by as many as 10 points in the final 12 minutes.

With one conference game remaining, Huntingdon is tied with Piedmont for second in the West Division with a 9-8 conference record. With two head-to-head wins against the Lions, the Hawks need to win at Brevard this weekend to clinch the No. 2 spot in the West Division.
