Hawks pull away late against Berea

DUE TO CURRENT COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS, FANS ARE NOT PERMITTED AT HUNTINGDON BASKETBALL GAMES

 

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team earned a 78-68 conference win over Berea during Senior Day on Saturday.

A tight game for much of the first and second halves, the two teams traded leads four times in the first half and eight times in the second half. Huntingdon built a 13-point lead in the first half before Berea battled back and cut the Hawks' lead to 35-33 at halftime.

The Hawks took control and put the Mountaineers away in the final 10 minutes of the game.

Tied 57-57 with a little more than nine minutes to play, Huntingdon used a 21-9 run to pull away for good. In a game where 10 Hawks scored, balanced scoring helped Huntingdon close out the game as seven players scored during the pivotal run.

Senior Ceaunte Zachery led Huntingdon with 20 points and six rebounds. Sam Page followed with 12 points, senior Graham Martin added 11 points and Willie Taylor had nine points. James Harris finished with six rebounds, five assists and three steals and Caleb Toney had six rebounds and three steals. Dylan Bohling also tied for a team-high six rebounds.
