Hawks Fall to In-State Rival BSC

Montgomery, Alabama – The Hawks' late comeback was not enough as they fell to the Panthers of Birmingham Southern 84-76.

The game began with a 9-0 run from the Panthers in the first 3:30 of the game. The Hawks got their first basket at 14:37 with a three pointer from Rashawn Knox. Another 6-0 run for the Panthers boosted them up by 12 at the halfway point in the first half (15-3). Huntingdon worked to bring the game within 11 with one minute remaining (34-23) but were unable to bring it any closer before halftime with a score of 38-25.

First Half Notes:

Huntingdon shot 35% from the field going 10-28 and 50% from the 3 on 3-6

Panthers shot 57% from the field going 16-28 and shot 27% from three

Myles Murphy added 7 points for the Hawks

 

Fast break points with a 6-0 run by the Panthers to start the second half led to a lead of 18 with 16 minutes remaining in the game (47-29). Halfway through the second the Hawks were down 62-44 but could not get any shots to fall. With three minutes left in the game, Hawks down 18 (78-60), they began to climb back. A three pointer by Nate Johns with a minute left brought the Hawks within 13 that led to a fast break three by Rashawn Knox and a steal and a layup by Daquan Hawkins in the final 15 seconds. The Hawks' late spark was not enough to overcome the Panthers.

Second Half Notes:

The Hawks shot 47% on 20-42 and shot 3-17 from three on 17%

The Panthers shot 47% on 17-36 and added 4 made three pointers

Max Gardner and Nate Johns both had 12 points in the second half

The Hawks are back in action on the road at the Rhodes Classic in Memphis, TN on December 17th and 18th as they take on Rhodes and Centre at 2 and 4pm CST.
