Hawks Fall to the Lynx in Rhodes Classic

Memphis, Tennessee – The Hawks fell to Rhodes College on the first day of the Rhodes Classic 76-54.

The first five minutes of the game was claimed by a 12-2 run from the Lynx before the Hawks scored a pair of free-throws by Jeremy Autin at the 14-minute mark. Another 5-0 run by Rhodes lifted them up 13 for their largest lead of the half (17-4). Both teams went scoreless for three minutes until the drought was ended by made free-throws and a three-point bucket from Daquan Hawkins to bring the Hawks back within 4 (19-15). Huntingdon and Rhodes battled back and forth while Hawkins was able to drain another three within a minute that followed with a layup from Max Gardner, the Hawks now down 1 (21-20). A 14-2 run by the Lynx in a five-minute span, with 1:24 left in the half boosted them to a 12-point lead at halftime (39-27).

 

To start the second half, Nate Johns made a jump shot to bring the game within 10 points and spark a 10-0 run for the Hawks in the first three-minutes of the half (39-37). With the Hawks down two, they allowed Rhodes to go on a 10-0 run of their own, 6 of those 10 points coming from the free-throw line. Huntingdon would be unable to break the 10-point deficit for the remainder of the game and fall to the Lynx.

 

For the game, Huntingdon shot 29% from the field, while Rhodes shot 50%. Rhodes almost doubled Huntingdon's points in the paint with 48. The Hawks were only able to score 2 fast break points while Rhodes ran the floor for 15.
