Hawks Defeat Lyon In Season Opener

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Huntingdon Men's Basketball (1-0 overall, 0-0 CCS), defeated the Lyon Scots (0-1 overall, 0-0 SLIAC) 87-77 in their season opener.

The Hawks came out strong early with early outside shots coming from sophomore Myles Murphy and senior Max Gardner to put Huntingdon ahead early 7-5. The early first half consisted of the two teams trading points, with both teams shooting above 40% for the half. Junior Randall Davis led the Hawks efficient offense, scoring 11 of his 15 points within the first half. Alongside Gardner, the two forwards spearheaded Huntingdon to a 15 point first half lead.

In the second half, Huntingdon continued their hot shooting. Junior transfer Jaylen Washington buried two shots from deep to begin the half, and the Hawks never looked back. Up by 8 points at the 8 minute mark, a slam dunk from Nate Johns gave the Hawks enough momentum to lead the rest of the game, walking away with a 10 point lead.

This win marked the first career win for Zac Richards as a head coach. When asked about how it felt to win in his debut, Coach Richards stated that "It feels great. I'm incredibly proud of our guys. They defended with passion and laid it all out there for 40 minutes. Our bench energy was phenomenal all game. This was a great team win!"
