Hawks can't overcome 1st half deficit at Rhodes
MEMPHIS, Tenn.- Huntingdon Men's Basketball (4-5 Overall), fell to Rhodes College (4-4 Overall), 109-89.
Highlights
First Half
- The opening minutes of the quarter contained back and forth offensive action between both sides. Tate Goolesby capped off this action with a layup at 17:17 left in the first half to make the score 7-7.
- With 16:06 remaining, Rhodes would take the lead with a three point shot to take a 12-9 lead.
- At the 13:03 mark in the first half, Rhodes would extend their lead to double digits with two made free throws to make the score 25-14.
- Two layups by Randall Davis with 11:16 remaining, cut the Hawks deficit to 28-20.
- With 9:28 remaining in the half, Rhodes went on a 11-2 run, turning the score to 39-22.
- Over the next few minutes, both teams exchanged defensive stops and turnovers, until the 6:26 mark, where Max Gardner had a slam dunk to make the score 46-29.
- Rhodes continued their excellent shooting of the half, with a shot from deep with 3:22 left in the half, to make the score 52-34.
- With 1:48 remaining in the first half, Marcus Townsend hit a three pointer for the hawks, leaving the score 54-37.
- The score at the end of the first half was 59-39.
Second Half
- To open up the second half, Huntingdon would score on back to back possessions with baskets by Max Gardner and Tate Goolesby, to cut the lead down to 59-43 with 18:21 left in the game.
- With 15:46 remaining in the second half, a layup by Marcus Townsend would cap off a 10-1 run for the hawks, making the score 62-53.
- A 10-3 run by Rhodes with 13:18 left in the half, made the score 72-56.
- With 11:30 left in the game, Rhodes hit a three point shot to extend their lead to 78-60.
- At the 9:53 mark, the Lynx went on a 12-2 run exemplified by their offensive shooting, turning the score to 84-62.
- Huntingdon would score on back to back possessions to cut the deficit to 98-75 with a shot from deep from Chase Dumas and two free throws by Myles Murphy with 4:32 remaining.
- The Hawks would go on a 8-0 run with 2:03 left in the game, finished off by a Chase Dumas layup to make the score 105-85.
- The score at the end of the game was 109-89.
