Huntingdon men’s golf tied for 10th in Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches’ Poll

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's golf team will enter the spring season in the Top 10 of the Golf World/Nike Division III poll.

The poll was released on Wednesday and will appear in Golf World on Nov. 7. Huntingdon is tied with Transylvania for the 10th spot in the poll.

Largely based on victories in the Golfweek Fall Invitational and the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial, Guilford College earned the No. 1 ranking. The Quakers picked up 15 of 19 first-place votes and finished with 452 points.

Illinois Wesleyan is second at 408 points and Methodist University is third at 402 points. Huntingdon received 278 points in the poll.

"Honestly, I think we're better than No. 10," Huntingdon men's golf coach Matt Mahanic said. "I think this will probably serve as motivation for our guys going into the spring."

Huntingdon, which finished sixth in the NCAA Division III Championship last spring, competed in four tournaments this fall. The Hawks were second in the Royal Lakes Fall Classic, tied for second in the Rhodes Fall Classic, seventh in the D3 National Championship Preview and 14th in the Golfweek Fall Invitational.
