Huntingdon’s Just ties for 5th to lead men’s golf in Callaway Gardens Invitational

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Junior Griffin Just finished six strokes out of first and the Huntingdon men's golf team tied for eighth in the Callaway Gardens Invitational.

Just shot a two-round total of 151 to tie for fifth at the Mountain View Course at Callaway Gardens. As a team, the Hawks followed up their first-round score of 311 with a 319 on Sunday to finish at 630. Oglethorpe won with a score of 591 and the Stormy Petrels' Anthony Maccaglia was the medalist at 145.

"Griffin finished fifth individually and had a great weekend," Huntingdon Director of Golf David Schreyer said. "But as a team, it was a sloppy performance. This was our first competition of the spring and it looked like we were still shaking off the winter rust.

"Eighth is not the start we wanted, but it is a starting point. We have another big tournament coming up on March 15. We're going to look for continued improvement and a more consistent performance at Jekyll Island."

Methodist University finished second at 611, LaGrange was third at 620, Emory was fourth at 625 and Rhodes, Greensboro and Averett tied for fifth at 626. Berry tied with Huntingdon for eighth at 630.

Huntingdon junior Rodes Bowers shot a two-round 157, sophomore Steven Smith shot 158, junior Jamey Lester shot 164 and junior Tyler Schmutz shot 168. Freshman David James, who played as an individual, shot 161.

Huntingdon returns to action in the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate on Mach 15.
