Huntingdon’s Lester named conference Golfer of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Huntingdon senior Jamey Lester started strong in the first competition of the fall for the men's golf team.

For his performance, Lester was named the USA South Men's Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.

Lester's even-par 144 tied for fourth in the Rhodes College Men's Fall Classic and helped the Hawks finish eighth. Lester shot a 2-under 70 in the opening round and a 2-over 74 in the final round.

Golfer of the Week
          Jamey Lester, Huntingdon - The senior from Auburn, Alabama finished tied for fourth at the Rhodes College Men's Fall Classic in Tunica, Mississippi last week by shooting an even-par 144. In the two-day event, Lester opened with a two-under par 70 and finished with two-over par 74. His performance helped the Hawks to an eighth place finish. Also Nominated: Lucas Norman, N.C. Wesleyan; James Van Nice, Covenant; Joseph Morris, Piedmont.

 

Golf Rookie of the Week
          Jake Forbes, Piedmont - The freshman from Woodstock, Georgia has competed in two events to open the season. First, he placed tied for fifth at the Piedmont College Fall Invitational two weeks ago by shooting a 13-over par 157. In the two-day event, Forbes opened with a six-over par 78 and finished with a seven-over par 79. His performance helped the Lions to a third place finish. Last week, he placed tied for 34th at the Tom Kinder Memorial by shooting an 11-over par 155. In the two-day event, Forbes opened with a one-over par 73 and finished with a ten-over par 82. His performance helped the Lions to an eighth-place finish. Also Nominated: None.
