Huntingdon’s Harris named USA South Rookie Golfer of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Huntingdon freshman Mac Harris had his best collegiate finish in the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational this past weekend.

Harris' performance was recognized on Wednesday with the release of the USA South Men's Golf Athletes of the Week. Harris was named the Golf Rookie of the Week.

Harris shot an even-par 216 to finish tied for seventh at Jekyll Island. Harris shot a 1-over-par 73 in both the first round and the second round and turned in his best collegiate score in the final round with a 2-under 70.

Methodist junior Mason Stutler and LaGrange senior Cory Howard were named Co-Golfers of the Week. Stutler and Howard each shot 207 and tied for first at Jekyll Island.

Co-Golfers of the Week
Cory Howard, LaGrange - The senior from Jacksonville Beach, Florida finished tied for first at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational last week by shooting a nine-under par 207. In the three-day event, Howard opened with a one-over par 73, followed with a six-under par 66 and finished with a four-under par 68. His performance helped the Panthers win their second consecutive event.

Mason Stutler, Methodist - The junior from Fredericksburg, Virginia finished tied for first at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational last week by shooting a nine-under par 207. In the three-day event, Stutler opened with an five-under par 67, followed with a three-under par 69 and finished with a one-under par 71. His performance helped the Monarchs finish third at the event.

Also Nominated: Will Thrash, Huntingdon; Onni Hurri, Averett.

 

Golf Rookie of the Week
Mac Harris, Huntingdon - The freshman from Daytona Beach, Florida finished tied for sixth at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational last week by shooting an even-par 216. In the three-day event, Harris opened with a one-over par 73, followed with another one-over par 73 and finished with a two-under par 70. His performance helped the Hawks finish sixth at the event. Also Nominated: Tuomas Tyry, Averett; Sam Hill, Piedmont; Ryan Najim, LaGrange.
