Hawks in 1st after one complete round in Flower City Preview

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Huntingdon men's golf team took a one-stroke lead at the completion of Round 1 of the Flower City Preview on Saturday.

A second round was schedule for Saturday but was not completed due to the weather. The 54-hole event will now be shortened to 36 holes. The remainder of Round 2 will be completed on Sunday at the Midvale Country Club.

Huntingdon led the 18-team field with a 12-over-par 300 in the first round. St. John Fisher College was second at 301. Roughly midway through the second round, St. John Fisher is 18-over for the tournament and Huntingdon is two strokes back at 20-over.

"This was a good day for the Hawks, even though the conditions were dreadful," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "It was nice to see our guys on top of the leader board after Round 1. It was even better to see the desire our guys showed out there.

"A couple of the guys got off to a rough start but they really fought to bring it back. It looks as though we have 10 more holes to finish on Sunday morning to determine the outcome. I feel really good about where we are and I am excited to see how we come out and compete."

At the end of Round 1, senior David James was tied for the tournament lead with a 1-under 71. Sophomore Chase Feagin was tied for eighth at 3-over 75 and junior Addison Lambeth was tied for 17th at 4-over 76. Juniors Will Thrash and Chad Ring each shot 78 in the opening round and were tied for 34th.
