Lambeth’s 66 sets tone in final round of Emory Spring Invitational

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Junior Addison Lambeth earned his second win of the season and the Huntingdon men's golf team captured its fourth team win on Monday in the Emory Spring Invitational.

A day after firing his best round as a Hawk with a 3-under-par 67, Lambeth was one stroke better in the final round with a 4-under 66. Lambeth won the tournament by seven strokes with a 7-under 133. Guilford's Tommy Schick finished with an even-par 140.

In a field that featured five top-10 teams and five other top-25 teams, the eighth-ranked Hawks shot a 2-under 278 in the final round and 12-over 572 for the tournament. Fifth-ranked Oglethorpe was second with an 18-over 578.

The 278 is the best round by the Huntingdon golf team since a 277 during the 2006-07 season. The two-round 572 is the best 36-hole total since a 569 during the 2008-09 season.

The four tournament wins for the Hawks this season are the most since five wins in the 2009-10 season.

"I am ecstatic with the progress we have made this year. This team is the real deal," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "We had a great start today with six birdies on the first three holes. I'm so proud of these guys and I'm looking forward to seeing what we do in the conference tournament."

Lambeth, who was ranked seventh in Division III entering the tournament, is just the sixth Hawk to shoot a 66 during the NCAA era. With senior David James shooting a 66 earlier this season, Lambeth and James are the first two Huntingdon golfers to shoot 66 in the same season since the 2005-06 season.

Lambeth has shot par or better in nine straight rounds.

"Addison played two great rounds for us," Schreyer said. "He once again made a case that he might be the best the best player in the country. He is a true leader."

James turned in his second best round of the season with a 1-under 69 on Monday and finished tied for seventh with a two-round, 4-over 144. Junior Chad Ring shot a 2-over 72 in the final round and tied for 15th with a 6-over 146.

Junior Will Thrash had a 1-over 71 in the final round and shot 150 for the tournament and freshman Stephen Shephard shot a 3-over 73 and finished with a 151.

Playing as an individual, sophomore Jon Colten Stanaland shot a 1-over 71 on Monday and finished with a 36-hole total of 149.

Huntingdon returns to action in the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday.
