COLUMBUS, OHIO – Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer was recently named the Golf Coaches Association of America Division III Southeast Region Coach of the Year.

The GCAA announced the six Dave Williams National Coach of the Year winners along with the Golf Pride Grips Region and District Coaches of the Year. National and Regional winners were announced for NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA and NJCAA Division I and Division II.

Schreyer, who returned to Huntingdon as the Director of Golf in January 2013, led his team to a second-place finish in the Division III NCAA Golf Championships in May. Addison Lambeth tied for second in the championships. Schreyer was also named USA South Athletic Conference Golf Coach of the Year in April.

"I am very excited to receive this award," Schreyer said. "The Southeast is one of the strongest regions in Division III golf, so to be named Coach of the Year means we are doing something right at Huntingdon. Within three years, this team is set up the way I want it and we are going to be contenders in the years to come."

The Hawks earned four team wins in the 2015-16 season and four individual wins. Lambeth won two tournaments while freshman Stephen Shephard and junior Will Thrash each won one. Huntingdon picked up its first team since the 2010-11 season and its first individual victory since the 2011-12 season.

Several Hawks have earned post-season accolades and Schreyer sees this as motivation for the upcoming season.

"The guys are on an all-time high right now," Schreyer said. "We have a majority of the core returning and they are excited.

"The atmosphere is really great and my incoming freshmen are playing well right now because they are excited to be at Huntingdon, so the program is definitely headed in the right direction. There will be a lot of competition within the team next year and the boys are going to have to fight hard for their positions."
