Top-ranked Hawks tie for 4th in Golfweek Invitational

DESTIN, Fla. – The top-ranked Huntingdon men's golf team shot 10-over-par 294 in the final round of the Golfweek D3 Fall Invitational on Tuesday.

One of 14 nationally ranked teams in the tournament, the Hawks finished tied for fourth with a three-round total of 875 at the Raven Golf Course.

Tenth-ranked University of Texas-Tyler won the 19-team tournament with a 2-over-par 854. Seventh-ranked Rhodes was second with an 868.

"It wasn't our week, but that's golf," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "Our goal is to be in position to contend every week. If we do that, we are going to win a lot. I'm proud of the way the guys fought. It just wasn't our week."

Huntingdon senior Addison Lambeth finished tied for seventh with a three-round total of 2-over 215. Lambeth shot a 1-over 72 in the final round. Illinois Wesleyan's Conner O'Neil earned medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 8-under 205.

Senior Will Thrash shot 5-over 76 in the final round and finished tied for 17th with a 5-over 218. Senior Chad Ring and sophomore Stephen Shephard finished with a three-round 223. Ring shot 5-over 76 on Tuesday and Shephard shot a 1-over 72.

Sophomore Mark Connelly shot 3-over 74 in the third round and finished with a 225.

Huntingdon returns to action on Monday in the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial.
