Third-ranked Hawks tied for 4th in Savannah Invitational

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The third-ranked Huntingdon men's golf team shot 11-under-par 565 in the first two rounds of the Savannah Invitational on Monday.

Huntingdon shot 5-under 283 in the first round and 6-under 282 in the second round. Entering Tuesday's final round, the Hawks are seven strokes out of first and tied for fourth.

Thirteenth-ranked Methodist leads the tournament at 18-under 558. Second-ranked Emory and ninth-ranked Carnegie Mellon are tied for second at 12-under 564 and 14th-ranked Guilford is tied for fourth with Huntingdon.

The 18-team tournament features 10 nationally-ranked teams.

Guilford's James Mishoe turned in Monday's best two-round total and leads the field with an 11-under 133. All six Hawks in the tournament are within 11 strokes of first.

Sophomore Cody Argade is eight strokes out of first and tied for 14th with a 3-under 141 on Monday. Argade shot 2-over 74 in Round 1 and a career-best 5-under 67 in Round 2. The 67 was the Hawks' best round on Monday.

Senior Drew Mathers, the top-ranked golfer in Division III, and sophomore Walker Hinds are nine strokes out of first and tied for 22nd at 2-under 142. Mathers shot a 1-under 71 in each round and Hinds shot a 2-under 70 and an even-par 72.

Junior Owen Burt is 10 strokes off the lead and tied for 26th with a 1-under 143. Burt shot 1-under 71 in the opening round and even-par 72 in the second round.

Sophomore Carson Whitton is 11 strokes out of first and tied for 33rd with an even-par 144. Whitton shot 1-under 71 in Round 1 and 1-over 73 in Round 2.

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon will play in the final round of the Savannah Invitational on Tuesday.
