Third-ranked Hawks place 2nd, Burt and Argade tie for 5th in Savannah Invitational

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The third-ranked Huntingdon men's golf team turned in its best three-round total of the NCAA era and placed second in the Savannah Invitational.

The Hawks shot a 13-under par 275 in Tuesday's final round and finished the tournament with a 24-under 840. Ninth-ranked Carnegie Mellon won the tournament with a 31-under 833.

The 18-team tournament featured 10 nationally-ranked teams.

In addition to breaking their NCAA-era record for three rounds, the Hawks' 275 in the final round was three strokes off the program's NCAA-era single-round record of 272 and the 13-under-par performance was the best round vs. par for the Hawks during the NCAA era.

Guilford's James Mishoe earned tournament medalist honors with a 13-under 203.

Three of Huntingdon's five golfers shot in the 60s in the final round and all five finished the tournament at even-par or better.

Junior Owen Burt and sophomore Cody Argade each finished six strokes out of first and tied for fifth at 7-under 209. Senior Drew Mathers tied for 13th at 5-under 211, sophomore Walker Hinds tied for 26th at 1-under 215 and sophomore Carson Whitton tied for 33rd at even-par 216.  

Burt fired his best round as a Hawk with a 6-under 66 in the final round. The round was two strokes off the program's NCAA-era record for a single round and was Burt's second round in the 60s since the start of the fall.

Argade, a day after shooting a career-best 5-under 67, shot a 4-under 68 in the final round. Mathers, the top ranked golfer in Division III, shot 3-under 69 in the final round, Hinds shot 1-over 73 and Whitton shot even-par 72.

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon will play in the Jekyll Island Invitational on March 20-22.
