Second-ranked Hawks in top-four entering final round of Savannah Invitational

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The second-ranked Huntingdon men's golf team was tied for first after one complete round and is in the top four with one full round to play in the Savannah Invitational.

Huntingdon completed two rounds on Monday but three teams were unable to complete the second round when play was suspended due to darkness. Guilford, Centre and North Carolina Wesleyan will complete Round 2 on Tuesday.

The 16-team tournament features seven nationally-ranked teams.

Eighth-ranked Guilford currently leads the 16-team tournament at 2-under-par. The Quakers shot 2-under-par 286 in Round 1 and are at even-par in Round 2. Fifth-ranked Methodist is 1-over after two rounds at 577, seventh-ranked Piedmont is 2-over at 578 and Huntingdon is 5-over at 581.

The Hawks shot 2-under 286 in the opening round and 7-over 295 in the second round.

With one hole to play in Round 2, Guilford's James Mishoe leads the tournament at 11-under. Mishoe shot 7-under 65 in the opening round.

Huntingdon's Owen Burt is tied for fifth at 2-under 142. Burt shot a 3-under 69 in the opening round and a 1-over 73 in the second round.

Walker Hinds is tied for 16th with a 2-over 146 after two rounds. Hinds shot even-par 72 in the first round and 2-over 74 in the second round. Carson Whitton is one stroke behind Hinds and tied for 19th at 3-over 147. Whitton shot 1-over 73 in the first round and 2-over 74 in the second round.

Peter Meilunas is tied for 29th at 5-over 149. Meilunas opened the tournament with an even-par 72 and closed the day with a 5-over 77. John Gaal is tied for 39th with a 7-over 151. Gaal bounced back from a 5-over 77 in the opening round and shot a 2-over 74 in the second round.

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon will play in the final round of the Savannah Invitational on Tuesday.
