Second-ranked Huntingdon climbs to 2nd in Jekyll Island Invitational

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The second-ranked Huntingdon men's golf team climbed three spots and is in second place after the second round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on Saturday.

Huntingdon turned in Saturday's best round with a 7-under-par 281 and is five strokes off the lead with a two-round total of 3-under 573. Entering Sunday's final round, eighth-ranked Guilford leads the tournament with an 8-under 568. Emory is third at 6-over 582.

The 25-team tournament includes 10 nationally ranked teams.

Huntingdon's Walker Hinds is three strokes out of first and tied for fourth entering the final round. Hinds shot 3-under 69 in the second round and has a 3-under 141 for the tournament.

Guilford's Jack Lee leads the field with a 6-under 138 and Guilford's James Mishoe is second with a 5-under 139.

Huntingdon's Peter Meilunas is six strokes off the lead and tied for eighth at even-par 144. Meilunas shot 1-under 71 on Saturday. John Gaal is two strokes behind Meilunas and tied for 15th at 2-over 146. Gaal shot a 1-under 71 in the second round.   

Owen Burt turned in a 4-over 76 in the second round and is tied for 35th with a 4-over 148. Carson Whitton shot 2-under 70 in the second round and is tied for 49th at 7-over 151.

                                      

Coming Up: Huntingdon will play in the final round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on Sunday.
