Gaal’s hole-in-one highlights final round of Golfweek Invitational for second-ranked Hawks

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The second-ranked Huntingdon men's golf team shot 8-over-par 296 in the final round and placed second in the Golfweek DIII Invitational with a 27-over 891.

Highlighting the Hawks' final round was John Gaal's hole-in-one on Hole No. 15 of the El Campeon course, a 142-yard, par-3 hole.

As a team, the Hawks finished 11 strokes out of first. Third-ranked Methodist won the 12-team tournament with a 16-over 880. Fourth-ranked Emory finished eight strokes behind Huntingdon and placed third at 35-over 899.

Carnegie Mellon's Jason Li earned medalist honors with a 2-under 214 in three rounds.

Two Hawks finished in the top-seven and four Hawks finished in the top-20. Owen Burt and Walker Hinds each shot 1-over 73 in the final round. Burt finished sixth with a 4-over 220 for the tournament. Hinds was seventh with a 5-over 221.

Gaal shot 2-over 74 on Sunday and tied for 16th with a 10-ver 226. Peter Meilunas shot 4-over 76 in the final round and finished 19th with an 11-over 227.  Carson Whitton shot 80 in the final round and tied for 31st with an 18-over 234.

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon hosts the Wynlakes Intercollegiate on April 12-13.
