Burt, Gronka and Argade lead Huntingdon in Wynlakes Intercollegiate

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon's Owen Burt, Grant Gronka and Cody Argade each finished within six strokes of first and finished in the top-13 of the Wynlakes Intercollegiate on Tuesday.

Burt, after shooting 3-under par 69 in the opening round, shot 1-over 73 in the final round and tied for fifth with a 2-under 142. Gronka shot even-par 72 in the final round and tied for ninth with a 1-under 143. Argade shot even-par 72 in both rounds and tied for 13th with a two-round 144.

Carnegie Mellon's Jason Folker earned medalist honors with a 6-under 138. Folker shot 5-under 67 on Tuesday.

Huntingdon fielded three teams in the tournament with the second-ranked varsity, a B-Team and a C-Team. The varsity shot 9-over 297 in the final round and finished seventh with a 17-over 593. The C-Team shot 17-over 305 in the final round and tied for ninth with a 23-over 599. The B-Team shot 15-over 303 in the final round and was 11th with a 26-over 602.

The 15-team field included 10 of the top-21 teams in Division III. Eighth-ranked Piedmont won the tournament with a 10-under 566 and 10th-ranked Carnegie Mellon was second with a 6-under 570. 

For the Huntingdon varsity, behind Burt's 142, Peter Meilunas shot 1-over 73 in the final round and tied for 22nd with a 3-over 147. Carson Whitton shot 2-over 74 in the final round and tied for 38th with a 7-over 151, John Gaal shot 5-over 77 in the final round and tied for 47th with a 9-over 153 and Walker Hinds shot 80 in the final round and tied for 57th with a two-round 157.   

For the C-Team Hawks, behind Gronka and Argade, Adam Kilpatrick shot 6-over 78 in the final round and tied for 38th with a 7-over 151 and Dylan Webb shot 83 in the final round and tied for 61st with a 161.

Leading the Huntingdon B-Team, Cam Page tied for 30th with a 5-over 149. Page shot 4-over 76 in the final round. Ethan Unverzagt also shot 4-over 76 on Tuesday and tied for 32nd with a 6-over 150.  Connor Bruce shot 3-over 75 in both rounds and tied for 32nd with a 6-over 150.  Ben Harris shot 4-over 76 in the final round and tied for 47th with a 9-over 153.

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon will play in the USA South Conference Tournament on April 22-24.
