Hawks place 2nd; Burt, Meilunas and Gronka place in top-5 in USA South Tournament
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Huntingdon men's golf team placed second and three Hawks finished in the top-five in the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament.
Due to the weather forecast for Saturday, the three-round tournament was played in two days instead of three. The nine-team tournament featured seven nationally ranked teams.
Third-ranked Huntingdon shot 6-over-par 294 in the final round and finished four strokes out of first with a 60-over 924. Sixth-ranked Piedmont won the conference title with a 56-over 920. Second-ranked Methodist was third at 68-over 932.
Huntingdon's Owen Burt, Peter Meilunas and Grant Gronka each placed in the top-five to earn All-Tournament honors. Burt placed third, one stroke out of first, with a 10-over 226. Burt shot even-par 72 in the final round.
Meilunas shot 1-under 71 in the final round and placed fourth with a 13-over 229 and Gronka shot 2-over 74 in the final round and placed fifth with a 14-over 230.
Methodist's Cooper Hrabak and Piedmont's Ben Balen each shot 9-over 225 in three rounds. Hrabak won in a playoff.
Rounding out Huntingdon's scores, Carson Whitton shot 23-over 239 to tie for 22nd and John Gaal shot 27-over 243 to finish 26th.
