Hawks in 6th, Gronka tied for 10th after Rd. 2 of NCAA Tournament

WHEELING, W.V. – The Huntingdon men's golf team remained in the top-six after the second round of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship on Wednesday.

Third-ranked Huntingdon shot 21-over-par 305 on the Speidel Jones Course. Entering Thursday's third round, the Hawks are sixth at 30-over 594.

Sixth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan, the Round 1 leader, remains in first with a 12-over 576. Top-ranked Methodist is second at 17-over 581 and second-ranked Guilford is third at 24-over 588.   

Grant Gronka led Huntingdon with a 3-over 74 in the second round. Through two rounds, Gronka is tied for 10th with a 4-over 145.

Carson Whitton shot 6-over 77 on Wednesday and is tied for 26th at 8-over 149. Walker Hinds shot 8-over 79 in the second round and is tied for 35th at 9-over 150.

Owen Burt turned in the Hawks' second best round on Wednesday with a 4-over 75 and is tied for 71st at 12-over 153.  Peter Meilunas shot 8-over 79 in the second round and is tied for 86th at 13-over 154.

Methodist's Andre Chi shot 5-under 65 in the second round and leads the field with a 4-under 137.

Following Wednesday's round, the 37-team field was cut to 18 teams for the final two rounds. All three USA South Athletic Conference teams in the tournament made the cut. In addition to Huntingdon and Methodist, fourth-ranked Piedmont is 15th with a two-round 603.

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon will play in the third round of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship on Thursday.
