Huntingdon’s Kasmarik helps lead USA team to Prague Cup championship

PRAGUE, Czech Republic – Former Huntingdon men's lacrosse player Mike Kasmarik and Hawks' head coach Andrew Carey helped lead an all-star team of Division II and Division III players to the Prague Cup championship this summer.

Kasmarik scored 15 goals in seven games and the USAAI team defeated the Czech Republic 4-3 in the championship game. The USAAI team finished unbeaten and Kasmarik's 15 goals led the three-day tournament.

The USAAI team won three games on the first day, defeating the Czech Republic 6-5, Team Great Britain 7-2 and TJ Malesice 13-0 before beating LC Jizni Mesto 14-1 and Big3Lax 12-2 on the second day. The USAAI team won a rematch with Big3Lax 8-5 in the semifinals before taking on the Czech Republic in the finals.

Kasmarik scored multiple goals in five games, including four goals against TJ Malesice. He scored three goals each against the Czech Republic (Day 1), LC Jizni Mesto and Big3Lax (Day 2) and two goals against Team Great Britain.

A native of Suwanee, Ga., Kasmarik scored 59 goals in his two seasons at Huntingdon.

The Prague Cup began in 1998 and has welcomed teams from around the world, including the United States, England, Wales, Scotland, Germany, Poland, Australia and Japan.
