Late push helps Hawks beat LaGrange in conference opener

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team rallied from a second-half deficit and beat LaGrange College 8-6 on Thursday night.

The game was the first meeting between the 10th-year Hawks and the second-year Panthers, who are led by Brandon Sewell. Sewell, who was a member of Huntingdon's first team and held multiple career records for the program when he graduated, later served as an assistant coach for Huntingdon before becoming LaGrange's head coach.

In Thursday's win, Huntingdon fell behind 3-1 in the first quarter and trailed 4-3 at halftime. After falling behind 5-4 early in the third quarter, the Hawks scored four straight goals to take the lead for good.

Ryan Campion scored to tie the game 5-5 with a little less than 10 minutes to play in the third quarter. Paul Gordon made it 6-5 with 4:16 left in the quarter before Cole Foster and Caden Bacz each scored in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter to make it an 8-5 game.

Bacz and Tyler Keiser each finished with two goals and Campion, Gordon, Foster and Ian Bruggeman each scored one goal. Keiser, Bruggeman and Foster each had one assist.

Mike Jones had four caused turnovers and seven ground balls.

Goalie Stephen Dan recorded 11 saves, six goals allowed and five ground balls in 60 minutes.
