Hawks Claim Home Opener Against Point

Montgomery, Alabama – The Hawks soared past the Skyhawks in their season/home opener with a score of 25-9.

With an 8-3 first quarter the Hawks claimed control in their home opener. Scoring in the first three minutes, senior midfielder Ryan Campion set the pace for the Hawks. However, in the next two minutes Point scored three goals to claim the lead (3-1). Campion stepped back up and scored again to bring the Hawks within one. The remaining five minutes of the first quarter was all Hawks after freshman Gage Kettlewell made his debut scoring three of the Hawks six points in the remaining time (8-3). In the second quarter Huntingdon continued to dominate and score. Senior attack and leading scorer for the night Ian Bruggeman tallied four goals and Kettlewell tagged in to score two more goals as the Hawks shut out the Skyhawks heading into halftime with a score of 17-3.

 

Point looked to regain some ground early in the third quarter as they scored two goals in the first four minutes of the half (17-5). Huntingdon refused to let up and scored four more goals in the third quarter to tie the quarter score 4-4 and have a game score of 21-7 heading into the final quarter. The Hawks outscored Point 4-2 in the fourth with Bruggeman setting a new career high by scoring his 6th goal of the night. Alexander Hero also claimed a new career high with his 3rd goal in the fourth quarter to help lift the Hawks to their win.
