Hawks Soar Past Spalding

Montgomery, Alabama – The Hawks increased their record to 3-4 overall with a win over Spalding University (21-3).

The Hawks owned the first period after scoring a total of four goals, two of them coming within the first three minutes of the game. The Golden Eagles struggled to get shots off as they shot four times compared to the Hawks seventeen.

Brennon Madonia played a key roll in earning the ball for the Hawks in face-offs as he went 23-26 on the day. Three unassisted goals by Huntingdon kicked off the second period and gave them a 7-0 lead before the Golden Eagles made their first goal on starting goalkeeper, EJ Umphries, with four minutes to go in the first half. That would be the final goal scored on Umphries for the day as he saved two shots. Before heading to halftime, the Hawks leading scorer, Kole Andres, nailed his second and third goals, both assisted by Kelcey Marston.

At the half the Hawks led by nine goals (10-1). Peter Harmon relieved Umphries in the goal after the Hawks went up by thirteen in the start of the second half (14-1). Andres scored two more goals for Huntingdon in the third and Spalding added two goals of their own to break even with Andres heading into the final period, 16-3.

Marston started the final period with his fourth goal and Andres scored his sixth goal at the eight-minute mark to secure his new career high as he led the Hawks to victory.

The Hawks return to action for their first conference game this weekend, March 18th at 10:00 AM CST against Brevard.
